 Have you ever stopped to watch what’s happening in your mind?  When those gears get going, what is it that makes them tick?  Are you rehashing a conversation that you had, but with better comebacks this time?  Are you worrying?  Are you having an imagined conversation where you are defending your actions?  Are you thinking about how happy you will be when you find that partner, lose that weight, win the lottery or get that new car?  There seems to be a lot of fear and longing in our everyday thoughts.   The streaming going on in our heads is rarely uplifting.   We can be hard on ourselves, focusing on negative situations and on the things that we lack.  I’m convinced that we can learn to become more aware of our thoughts and to reprogram them in a much more positive way. 

Our minds are such powerful tools, it is a shame to use them in any way that is not beneficial to us.  How about using our minds for joy? 

Becoming the observer of our thoughts is a very good start.  You’ll notice that when a thought occurs, the mind loves to follow it.  Something pulls us in–we somehow identify with the concept and we feel compelled to pursue it.  Until a different thought pops up.  We can learn to let thoughts happen without pursuing them.  It can clear up so much space and heaviness.

 

If we are having trouble noticing our thoughts going about our daily routine, meditation can help.  Watching the mind without reaction, without judgement, is the basis of most meditation techniques.  A lot of our thoughts reflect our upbringing, our experiences and our surroundings.  We would be wrong to think that we cannot change our thoughts and, in turn, change our lives.  For the better.

There seems to be some kind of creative energy at work that takes our thoughts and beliefs, manifesting them into reality.  If there is negativity in our minds, it will play out in our lives.  On the other hand, if our thoughts are positive and uplifting, it will affect our outlook and our actions.  This article explains the science behind that creative force.

If you want to change some aspects of your life, there are a lot of resources out there.  Bookstores and YouTube abound with authors and self-help gurus.  Look around, find something that speaks to you.  Mind your mind to bring about a better life!  Godspeed!
