Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby.  But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.

-Margery Williams Bianco,   from  The Velveteen Rabbit-

I know that in my blogs, the articles can sometimes feel preachy and make others feel defensive.  I feel defensive as well!  Like many of us who are moderately self-aware, I carry that lifestyle guilt.  However, I appreciate that positive reinforcement is one of the most effective ways to bring about change.  So I came up with the idea of a platform where we could share our successes.  A lot of green practices can be time-consuming, but using a Facebook platform is not.

If we can celebrate our worn out shabby stuff in a big way, we will shift the paradigm that professes that new is better.  I say nay, old is gold!  We must always be grateful and see value in what we have, that is key.  Conserving and using our old stuff is the best way to keep us out of the shopping loop.  Load your pictures and comments, the funnier the better.  We will entertain each other as we save the world!

If you haven’t done so already, join the Shabby Pride Facebook group page.  Show others how to use the hell out of their stuff!  We will step more gently on the Earth, and save money too!  Going green is serious business but let’s get some laughs while we’re at it!  Join here:  Shabby Pride:  Going Green and Using the Hell Outta Things

Here’s a preview of some of my shabby stuff, including a hand blender I got second hand and a “New” Cookbook  🙂
